Robert (Bob) Starzyk has more than twenty-five years experience in business turnarounds and crisis management. His background includes all aspects of corporate restructuring and executive management.
As a Managing Director at Focus Management Group, Bob puts to use his breadth of turnaround experiences serving as a Chief Operating Officer, Chief Restructuring Officer, Executive Vice President, and Financial Advisor for businesses ranging in size from $50 million to $2 billion. Bob is particularly adept in areas of cost containment, margin enhancement, operating improvement, creditor restructuring and financing - including debt restructures and equity infusions.
As Financial Advisor to the management team of $2 billion pharmaceutical distribution company, Bob led effort that successfully returned the business to profitability and led to an eventual sale that resulted in ownership receiving $16 million in net sales proceeds. As CRO and interim COO of $300 million steel fabricator, he led a turnaround that improved EBITDA in first full year from $4 million to $15 million through aggressive consolidation of excess capacity, sale of non-core assets and cost reductions of over $3 million annually. Bob has successfully assisted or managed businesses in the manufacturing, distribution, transportation, hi-tech, metals fabrication, heavy equipment, retail, printing and distribution and oil and gas industries.
Just prior to joining Focus, Bob served as head of BDO Consulting Corporate Advisor’s turnaround and interim management practice. He previously served as a Principal with Morris Anderson & Associates. Early in his career, he spent eight years at Bucino & Associates where he was responsible for building the turnaround practice in the South.
Bob earned his B.S. degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois. He is a member and past President and Board member of the Southeast Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association. Bob is a Certified Turnaround Professional.
